Hey There Friends!

This winter there have been some serious bad flu and cold bugs around!  I hope you have stayed healthy.   I’ve been a bit crazy for Fuji apples this winter and they do say an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Ahh thin slices ready for the oven

Whee! Anything we can do to keep these cold and flu bugs at bay is important! Have you made apple chips before? It is a healthy snack, great for grandkids, kids and adult kids :).  So full of nutrition.  You can eat them on granola or Teff porridge in the mornings…

Have you ever had apple chips on a salad?.. or how about in a sandwich,  especially a grilled cheese sandwich then tuck in some apple chips…(yum! excuse me while I got make a grilled cheese..:)

Yum! Apple chips and grilled cheese 🙂

Well ,you can bake your own apple chips.  I tried them two different ways, so that I would give you the easiest way to make them.  They truly do need a very low temperature or they will turn dark quickly.  I used a sharp knife to cut them in fairly thin rounds.  I didn’t worry about taking out the seeds because after all I figure they will shrink and fall out, which they did.  Some of my slices were thinner than others, those that are really thin, I put them towards the front of the rack

See? there on a cooling rack ready for the oven

so that I could take them out first. If you don’t have a large cooking cooling rack, use cookie sheet with parchment paper.

I liked using the rack, because you get the grill marks on the apple slices.   It will take 2 hours at a 225 degrees.  Check the apples halfway through so you can remove those that are done.  So much fun to nibble on the apple chips!

Fuji Apple Chips, Yum!

By the way-If you scroll on any page on the Dash of Wisdom site you will notice a few little ads (affiliate links) on the right hand side of the page.  These are for companies that either I purchase from or plan on purchasing from in the future and that I’m pleased to represent them.  Simply Beyond is the coolest product!  Don’t have fresh basil or rosemary?  No problem, spray on the flavor!  The Art of Tea has organic teas that sound so yummy, like Cinnamon Fig or Meyer Lemon 🙂  I plan on doing some posts using the tea in my cooking.  And yes!  I have been a member of the Food Blogger Pro team for a year and for any food blogger’s out there- this is a great team and support.   And Nectar mattress group will be my next mattress, not too expensive and it has cooling cover!

ok, my friends, enjoy the apple chips and stay healthy please!

Recipe Notes

Use organic apples as others have alot of pesticides

Store the apple chips in an open container to keep them crisp.

This is the knife I used, I love this chef knife, it stays sharp for a really long time.

You can add 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to the apples before baking.
